Matthew Helms
July 13, 1990 - April 18, 2004
Our community and Onslow County Classic Soccer Organization are saddened by the terrible loss of a fine young man. On April 18, 2004 Matthew Helms died in a tragic bus accident in France while representing our North Carolina Olympic Development Program. We are at a loss for words. Our club will always remember and keep Matt and his family in our thoughts and prayers.
Matthew Helms was the epitome of our youth. He demonstrated the highest level of determination to succeed in the sport he so loved. Matt was an outstanding student, athlete, and friend to our soccer community. Matt attended Hunters Creek Middle School. He will never be forgotten for his contribution to our program.
Matthew Helms Memorial Scholarship Fund was established April 18, 2004. This fund will provide scholarships to young soccer players in effort to help them with costs that are associated with the sport. Matt had a passion and love for soccer, which he demonstrated with his lifelong achievements. Matt would be proud to help young men and women in sharing his love for soccer. We are honored to offer these scholarships in his memory. Scholarships being offered are for classic soccer, ODP or SuperY (next level soccer), and collegiate. Details for each and application form below:
Scholarship for Collegiate Soccer
Intent: To assist seniors who have been accepted to play collegiate soccer
Amount: $500.00
Recipients: 1 Male Student AND 1 Female Student
Qualifications:
- Graduating senior who will continue to play collegiate soccer
- Played soccer senior year
- Student in good standing
- Recommendation Letter
Application Deadline: April 15, 2011
Award Notification: April 25, 2011

Scholarship for Classic Soccer
Intent: To assist young soccer players who would like to play classic soccer
Amount: $500.00
Recipients: 1 Male Student OR 1 Female Student
Qualifications:
- Local club affiliation with intent to play or currently playing with OCSA
- Coach recommendation
- Student in good standing
- Recommendation Letter
Application Deadline: June 30, 2011
Award Notification: July 15, 2011

Scholarship for ODP or Super Y (next level)
Intent: To assist Classic Players who would like to achieve the next level, such as ODP or Super Y program
Amount: $500.00
Recipients: 1 Male Student OR 1 Female Student
Qualifications:
- Currently registered with OCSA
- Coach recommendation
- Student in good standing
- Made final ODP Roster
Application Deadline: February 15, 2011
Award Notification: March 1, 2011
